9-2, Saturday, April 17th at Watauga High School (300 Go Pioneers Drive, Boone, NC 28607). FREE Admission! Food for sale! Sensory-friendly “Soft Open” from 9-10 am.
BuildFest is a free community event featuring over 100 hands-on STEAM activities organized into 13 zones including Science Central, Engineers Workshop, the Arts District, Gravity Alley, Adventures in Force and Motion, Healthy Bodies, Planet Earth, Builders Burg, and Cardboard City which are spread out across two gyms, a cafeteria, and an outside area at Watauga High School. We will also have Physics, Magic, and Performing arts shows throughout the day. The complete BuildFest program will be posted a few days before the event. Over 1700 people attended the 2026 BuildFest.

BuildFest is all about building and the most important thing we build is community. This joy-filled day would not be possible without our generous sponsors and volunteers.
Last we had 65 activity partners and over 200 volunteers helping to make it a day of wonder and joy for High Country children. Thirty local businesses sponsored the event, ensuring that it remained free for the community and supporting year round affordable programs at The Children’s Playhouse.

Register Now to be an Activity Partner
This is for a group (at least 2-6 people) that hosts its own booth at BuildFest and staffs it for the whole event. It's a great option for class projects and great outreach for education, STEM, Arts, and service clubs. Activity partner booths are free for nonprofits. For-profit businesses who would like to have a booth must also be BuildFest sponsors. Activity partner registration closes on March 17th.
