There’s a growing body of research that shows that positive childhood experiences – the kinds of experiences baked into the very mission of The Children’s Playhouse – have big effects on those children’s lives when they grow up.
Kids who had more positive childhood experiences had better mental health, better physical health, and increased education and income when they grew up EVEN when they had adverse childhood experiences too.
And it is our scholarship program that opens the door to the families that need it most.
Once a scholarship is awarded to a qualifying family, it works like any other membership and they can visit as many times as they like.
Like every other Playhouse family, they get to jump for joy in the Playhouse ballpit, cuddle up with a book in our Storybook Forest, or be as messy and creative as they please in our art room.
The kids forge first friendships and learn to play with others.
The parents and caregivers find other adults who understand the triumphs and the challenges of raising young children.
We’re so glad the research is catching up to what we’ve always known: bright futures can begin in the community created around a simple place to play.
This year we expect to get 4,000 visits from children and adults in our scholarship program for low-income families, first-time parents, social service agencies, and military families at a total cost of $58,000.
Grants will only cover half of those visits. So we’re asking for your kind gift to bridge the gap.
Thanks to a matching fund of donations pledged by our most dedicated supporters, gifts given before January 1st, 2028 will be matched dollar for dollar.
