  • BuildFest is a free STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) event for kids aged 2-12. Admission is free but parents are encouraged to preregister for fastest entry and to get a free ticket to the raffle with 4 baskets full of local gift certificates & prizes! 🎉

    BuildFest is huge and takes over both gyms, the cafeteria, and the outside of Watauga High School!

    The more than 70 hands-on activities are organized in the following zones:

  • Cafeteria/Commons/Library:

    ‣Family Resource Village

    ‣Calm Down Corner

    ‣Concessions

    ‣The Arts District

  • Auxiliary Gym:

    ‣Science Central presented by Moltox

    ‣Engineers’ Lab

    ‣Amazing Physics Show at 1:15 pm

  • Big Gym:

    ‣Gravity Alley

    ‣Builders’ Burg

    ‣Cardboard City (ages 5+)

    ‣Tiny Town (for kids under 5)

  • Outside:

    ‣Touch a Truck

    ‣SensoryVille

    ‣Cardinal Food Truck

  • More on the attractions:

    ‣Family Resource Village: Activities for babies and toddlers are offered in the Children’s Council Family Resource Village, an area within BuildFest that will focus on families, providing resources for parents/caregivers.

    ‣Amazing Science Show: The always popular Amazing Science Show helmed by ASU Physics professor Brooke Hester will be held in the Auxiliary Gym at 1:15 pm.

    ‣Concessions: Pizza, snacks, and drinks will be offered on a “Pay What You Can” basis in the cafeteria with all donations benefiting The Children’s Playhouse. Additional lunch options will be available at the Cardinal Food Truck with a percentage of sales also benefiting The Playhouse.

    Accessibility:

    ‣The first hour from 9-10 am will be a “soft open” recommended for kids with special needs with a reduced number of time slots and lower lighting.

    ‣Additionally, a quiet “Calm Down Corner” space for sensory overload will be available in the library throughout the day.

    What’s new this year?:

    ‣ There will be a skateboard ramp demonstration by sponsor ZRC Skate.
     
    ‣ “Science of Magic Show” by Shane Hillman at 10am, 11am, and 12pm.
     
    ‣ Teeny-Tiny Town, a kid-created miniature town made from cereal boxes and recycled items.
