    Legal Aid

    If being threatened with eviction because you are unable to pay rent, there is a legal aid of NC hotline: 1-866-219-526

    United Way

    United Way has a Covid-19 Community Economic Relief Fund. They can help with rent, food, and bills and give resources for local resources providing aid. 1-866-211-9966

    Western Crisis Assistance Network (WeCAN) 

    WeCan is a project of Hospitality House and may be able to help you with emergency needs such as evictions, heating and utility costs. Their website says that during the covid 19 pandemic, “our homeless prevention and crisis assistance program – is still operational but has suspended walk-in hours. All assistance has shifted to email and phone. We are here to assist with heating, utilities and eviction notices by emailing wecan@hosphouse.org or leaving a phone message at (828) 264-1237 ext.2″

  • Who Needs a Change? of the High Country (Diaper Bank)

    This diaper bank is a project of the Children’s Council of Watauga County but as March 30 has been temporarily moved to the Health and Hunger Coalition for ease of access.  We will have diapers, wipes and infant formula for Watauga County residents.  These items will be available for pick-up on M-F from 10:00-3:00.  

    Oasis (Opposing Abuse with Services, Information, and Shelter)

    The Oasis website states, “OASIS, Inc. remains available to provide services, information, and shelter during this time of uncertainty and fear. While our offices are closed to the public, we are still available for face to face meetings and other services. Call us at (828) 264-1532 for questions. If you are in a crisis situation, please call the following numbers: Watauga: (828) 262-5025, Avery: (828) 504-0911, Spanish: (828) 504-0800.”

    School Take and Go Meals 

    Click here for Watauga County Schools website for the most up-to-date information of school-based food distribution.

    All children under the age of 18 may get free meals at these sites regardless of where they live or attend school in Watauga County. Meals will be similar to what students receive from a normal school lunch/breakfast and will include items like sandwiches, vegetables, and salads along with milk, fruit and juice.

    Lunch and a packed breakfast for the next day will be served at Bethel, Mabel, Green Valley, Valle Crucis and Watauga High schools from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. each of the days that schools are closed for students.

    Dinner and breakfast for the next day will be served at Hardin Park School and Brushy Fork Baptist Church, located at 3915 Highway 421 North in Vilas, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. each of the days school is closed for students.

  • Formal Food Agencies/Resources

    Food pantry. Mondays 3-5 pm. NC residents only. One box per month per family/household. 

    Blowing Rock C.A.R.E.S., Rumple Memorial, 1218 Main St., Blowing Rock, NC

    Food Pantry. Mondays 9 am – 12 noon.

    Boone United Methodist Church

    To-go meals and food boxes. Thursdays, 5:00-6:30 pm.

    Casting Bread (Faithbridge, 194 Aho Rd., Blowing Rock, NC 28605)

    Food Pantry. Wednesday & Thursdays, 10:30 am – 3 pm. Drive-thru. Families can get food boxes twice a month.

    Greenway Baptist Church, 880 Greenway Rd., Boone NC

    Food boxes. Open Thursday 10 am – 2:30 pm.

    Health and Hunger Coalition

    Monday thru Friday ***New hours 12=4 pm. Curb-side service.

    Fresh produce and other perishables and to go meals once a week. Families can get food boxes twice a month. Also, they will have diapers, free baby formula, and baby wipes for Watauga County residents only. They will have to fill out a form the first time they go there. 

    Hospitality House

    Meals served three times a day (6:30-8:30 am, 11:30 am – 1:00 pm, 5:30-6:30 pm). Food pantry is open 7 days a week (***New hours 12 noon – 4 pm). May pick up twice a month

    Western Watauga Food Outreach

    Our regular Thursdays 4-6 pm food bag distribution is moving from Community Center to Henson’s Chapel UMC located at 120 Henson Hollar Rd, Vilas, NC 28692.
