Activity Partners and Volunteers Needed for Playhouse Build Fest 2017

Help us pull off an amazing community event for kids and families! Playhouse BuildFest will held on Saturday April 9 at Watauga High School. We are looking for 25-40 Activity Partners, groups that will plan and staff activities at BuildFest, and 50 Event Volunteers, who will give 2 or more hours on the day of the event. Read on to find out how to be an activity partner. If you would like to just help on the day of the event, click here.

Activity Partners

Register to participate here by March 25. Activity plans will be finalized in late March.

We are seeking ASU classes and clubs, as well as community groups, to offer hands-on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) activities and/or demonstrations aimed at kids aged 2-12 accompanied by their parents at next spring’s second annual Playhouse Build Fest.

Last year’s Build Fest was held at Parkway school and had 30 STEAM activities and was attended by 1000 people. Check out our slideshow on YouTube.

What Kinds of Activities?

Showcase your passion and expertise with an awesome, hands-on activity. We also have tons of suggestions of things we’d love to see. Some examples:

  • Rockets
  • Cardboard City Robots
  • Traditional crafts, eg weaving or pottery
  • Earthquakes
  • Wacky Vehicles Races
  • Pendulums
  • Experiments
  • Construction challenges
  • Cosmic Slime
  • Watershed Models
  • Fairy Houses

Build Fest is part of the statewide North Carolina Science Festival which will have a special subtheme in 2015 on the science of music and sound, so we are also looking for activities related to that theme but you are not required to connect to it.

How Do You Sign Up to Provide an Activity? What Kind of Support Will The Children’s Playhouse Offer?
Individuals, classes and clubs can register here to participate.  The Children’s Playhouse will review all activity submissions and provide feedback. We also have a list of suggested activities here. The Playhouse can also help with finding materials and will have some funds to purchase materials.
